In this untitled work, RETNA once again wields his iconic script with commanding presence, weaving together a lattice of glyph-like forms that evoke both ancient language and contemporary urgency. Executed in shimmering metallic tones of copper and steel blue, the composition pulses with visual rhythm—its layered calligraphy less about legibility and more about cadence, movement, and spiritual resonance.
RETNA’s unique alphabet, rooted in global calligraphic traditions—from Arabic and Hebrew to East Asian and Gothic scripts—is not meant to be read in the traditional sense, but rather experienced. Here, the letters stand tall and interlocked, forming an architectural grid of meaning. The glittering texture adds a ceremonial dimension, recalling sacred manuscripts or illuminated texts, while also nodding to urban grit and street culture.
What emerges is a visual incantation—part ritual, part rebellion—where text becomes abstraction and abstraction becomes a language of its own. With this piece, RETNA continues to redefine the boundaries between writing and image, sacred and street, tradition and innovation.
