Mash Gallery is proud to present Nature Worship curated by Andi Campognone, Museum Director and Curator for the Museum of Art and History in Lancaster. This exhibition will open to the public on Saturday, October 6, 2018 with a reception at 6pm. This group exhibition will feature works by Kim Abeles, China Adams, Kelly Berg, Kimberly Brooks, Rebecca Campbell, Terry Cervantes, Samantha Fields, Sant Khalsa, Laurie Lipton, Haleh Mashian, Catherine Ruane, Allison Schulnik and Lisa Schulte.
The term Nature Worship is defined as a system of religion based on the veneration of natural phenomena—for example, celestial objects such as the sun and moon and terrestrial objects such as water and fire. The exhibition Nature Worship examines the portrayal of nature beyond a system of religion more as a means to celebrate the importance of all livings things. It addresses our current global concern for our environment without delivering a sermon. The works in this exhibit span from the literal use of the landscape in painting, photography and sculpture to abstracted and subtle pieces that suggest a reverence to nature that are not so apparent. All the work is highly conceptual and expertly crafted. Andi Campognone states, “It is my intention that this collection of beautiful, powerful work arouses the viewer and strengthens their desire to respect and protect the natural world.” This artist lineup includes makers, that throughout their artistic careers, have made a practice of incorporating nature or the landscape in their work not as a passive background but as a bold contemporary subject.
